APC Governors Angry With Tinubu, Why They Shunned Campaign Meeting

Fresh facts have emerged on the reason for the absence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the inaugural meeting of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 election. The governors elected on the platform of the party had on Thursday shunned the meeting meant to consider and approve the structure and operational modalities of the campaign for the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari had on Monday inaugurated the APC Campaign Council with the appointment of the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the co-chairman of the council to fully take charge of the campaign. Though the party had denied insinuations that the governors’ absence was as a result of disaffection, credible sources within the party, however, confided in Saturday Telegraph that the governors stayed back due to their non-support for Tinubu’s appointment.

This is coming as the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) asked Buhari not to leave his campaign to Tinubu, while doubting the president’s fitness. Addressing journalists at a news conference in Abuja, CUPP chairman, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said Buhari would go down in history as the first President to hire a proxy in a presidential contest. The group of over 46 political parties said Buhari must also debate against its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and account for his stewardship to Nigerians. “President Buhari has, indeed, said Senator Bola Tinubu would do the campaigns on his behalf. We hope he was misquoted. Otherwise, Nigerians should simply ask him to step back from the contest and let his party put Tinubu forward as its candidate. “Buhari would go down as the first candidate in history to hire a proxy in a presidential contest. He is the one contesting, he should not be afraid to be the one to interface directly with Nigerians.”

'APC Thugs, Police After My Life' - Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has raised the alarm, alleging threat to his safety and that of the members of his immediate family in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Friday, Saraki fingered thugs allegedly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the police as instigators.

Saraki, who is the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, described the alleged conspiracy against him by the thugs and the police as sinister, uncivilised and unfortunate.

He said: “I call you today to bring to your attention the sad development in my home state, Kwara State, and the role of the security agencies in giving cover to people who are unleashing violence on our people because they are surprised and cannot understand how and why the people continue to give massive and overwhelming support to the PDP across the state.

Millions of people are at risk of early death because they do not eat enough fibre, according to a major study.

A review commissioned by the World Health Organisation found that people who get plenty of fibre in their diet cut their risk of early mortality by up to a third.

They also cut their risk of a heart attack, stroke, type two diabetes or bowel cancer by up to a quarter. 

Yet the vast majority of adults in Britain - around 91 per cent - eat less than the recommended daily amount. Similar figures exist in the US.

The findings are a blow for trendy low-carb diets, which have boomed in popularity in recent years and have also driven down fibre intake.

Nigerian Man Admits To The Killing Of His Girlfriend In London.

A man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 17-year-old Katrina Makunova in Camberwell, South London. Oluwaseyi Dada, 21 pleaded guilty to manslaughter today (09.01.19) on the first day of his trial at the Old Bailey.

The court heard how Dada and Katrina had been in a relationship that had recently deteriorated. A series of social media communications between Dada and Katrina were obtained by police from the victim's mobile phone.

These posts showed there was a feud between them, with both parties making veiled threats and insulting each other.

On Thursday, 12 July 2018, Katrina had gone to the lobby of a block of flats on Brisbane Street where Dada lived.

PDP Board Of Trustees’ Member Decamps To APC

A member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Kaulaha Aliyu, has also defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) along with the Deputy National Chairman, North of PDP, Babayo Gamawa.

The both, together with other defectors visited the President in Aso Rock.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defection of the PDP bigwigs from Bauchi State came barely 24 hours after the president received various members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Support Groups from the North East, who defected to the ruling APC.

APC wants to annex Kwara to South West - Senator Saraki:

Senate President Bukola Saraki flagged off the Peoples Democratic Party campaign in Kwara on a note of scare-mongering, alleging a plan by the All Progressives Congress to ‘annex the state to the South West.

The former governor and two term senator said the Kwara people will resist the alleged plan. He did not substantiate the allegation.

Saraki spoke on Tuesday at Bode Saadu, headquarters of Moro Local Government Area, at the official flag off of the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This election is not about me or our governorship candidate, Razak Atunwa. It’s about this state, our tradition. Time will tell about whatever we do today.

“We went back to PDP because we need a government that will care for our people, give jobs to our people,’’ he said.

Atiku Suffers Setback In The North-East As PDP Members Defect To APC

The presidential ambition of People’s Democratic Party candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has suffered a major setback as President Muhammadu Buhari formally received various members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Support Groups from the North East, who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Receiving delegation of the North East political stakeholders including the defectors led by Umar Bukar Bolori, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, President Buhari commended them for their decision, and also welcomed the new members to the APC.

He said he was not surprised by their defections because a good majority of the people in the North East were traditionally APC members and supporters.
