British Citizen Gary Hyde Sentenced to 7 Years Imprisonment For Shipping Ammunition To Nigeria From China

A British citizen identified as Gary Hyde has been jailed for 7 years for his involvement in the transfer of ammunition to Nigeria from China without a licence.

The 43-year-old Gary Hyde was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment at a London court on Dec 5, 2012 for his involvement in the transfer of 40,000 AK47 assault rifles, 30,000 other rifles and 10,000 9-mm pistols to Nigeria with 32 million rounds of ammunition.

Gary Hyde who received over $1 million commission payments from the Nigerian government got into trouble for transferring the weapon without a licence.

The presiding judge of the London court, Nicholas Loraine-Smith said Gary Hyde, the middleman got into trouble because of greed. Gary failed to apply for licence before taking part in the deal because of fears of rejection, but was attracted by the “huge profits” to be made in the deal – Judge Nicholas said.
