The fear of another helicopter crash has forced the family of late General Andrew Owoye Azazi to schedule his burial for December 29 2012 in Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital, rather than his hometown, Peretorugbene in Ekeremor Local Government Area.
Presidency sources told SaharaReporters that since there are no motorable roads leading to Peretorugbene, his body will be buried in Yenagoa because government dignitaries are afraid to travel to the event by helicopter or speed boat.
General Azazi died in a fiery naval helicopter crash last Saturday as he left the burial of the father of presidential aide, Oronto Douglas in the company of the Kaduna state governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa. The helicopter crashed after doing at least ten sorties ferrying dignitaries to the burial ceremony between the Port Harcourt International Airport and Okoroba.
Two naval pilots and aides to Azazi and Yakowa also died in the crash, into which the government has instituted a probe.
