TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN IN LAGOS: UNUSUAL PRIMARY SCHOOL IN A METROPOLIS

unusual-school
This is Ladipo Primary School, Matori, in Mushin local government area of Lagos State.Though located within Lagos metropolis, Ladipo primary school, compares favourably with a village school with no roof to shield pupils from scorching sun and rainfull. Built in 1980 during the administration of former Governor Lateef Jakande - An exponent of the Universal Primary Education (UPE) – the school has been left to the whims of nature thus, becoming dilapidated, with roofs, floors and walls badly damaged and effectively abandoned to rot.
The unusual sorry state of the school at a time when the state government is injecting huge funds to rehabilitate and build new structures for schools poses serious questions which demand urgent answers. Does is it mean that those in charge of school rehabilitation in the state have not seen or heard what is happening at Ladipo Primary School? Are they waiting to hear that the school building roofs have fallen on the pupils and their teachers before something could be done?
Let us be clear: Medicine after death is no use to the dead and such a tragedy is easily avoidable, but if it is allowed to come to pass no amount of compensation to bereaved families will heal their wounds or replace their lost children. Therefore we are calling on Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola or the relevant authorities in charge of education in the state to get a grip and learn from the lapses of the Nigeria Immigration Service and its catastrophic display of myopia and ineptitude by fixing this mess pronto before they have the blood of innocent young souls on thier hands.

  1. These kids are our greater tomorrow please let action be taken for the roof to be fixed. As already stated in the article medicine after death is no use to the dead. This tragedy is avoidable. Our maintenance culture is zero, we need to improve on this.
