World Cup 2018: Germany Vs Mexico 0 - 1

Germany v Mexico LIVE score and updates - World Cup 2018 in Russia

17:50
FULL TIME! Germany 0-1 Mexico
That's it!
Germany are beaten in their opening game for the first time since 1982.
Mexico have secured their first ever World Cup win over Germany!
It was a heroic effort with and without the ball from Mexico. They were brave going forward and brave when Germany pushed for an equaliser.
Hernandez is in tears, what a moment for Mexico!

17:49
90+3 mins: Germany have a corner... Neuer is up but it's headed away. That must be that?

17:48
Three minutes added on!
Can Germany find an equaliser?

17:48
PICTURED: History boy
Rafael Marquez of Mexico looks on after coming on

17:47
89 mins: So close for Germany!
First Ochoa dives at the feet to deny Gomez at close range.
The ball then comes out to Brandt who, from 25 yards, fires an absolute rocket that clips the outside of the post! Low can't believe it!
Herrera goes into the book for Mexico but that seems trivial now.

17:45
87 mins: Low makes his final move, bringing on Julian Brandt for Werner, who's looked bright but been frustrated for long periods.
After Germany had 21 shots in 85 minutes, but only seven had been on target.
Then comes their best chance of the day as Gomez has a free header from about eight yards out. But his jump is mis-timed and his header loops over the bar. Is that it?

17:42
85 mins: The world champions have barely five minutes to turn this around in Moscow.
They're growing in frustration and Muller goes into the book for a cynical foul.
Kroos does force a good save from Ochoa from distance but no one follows up to profit after the goalkeeper spills the ball.
Then Hummels goes into the book for a late lunge on Alvarez.

17:39
82 mins: Another wasted counter attack for Mexico! How many of these chances can they afford to miss?
It's the substitute Jimenez who leads the break with three attackers bearing down on only two defenders. But his pass is terrible and cut out.
Moments later, another counter sees Gallardo feed Layun, whose shot is wide again!

17:37
80 mins: Another roll of the dice for Germany here as Plattenhardt is replaced by veteran forward Mario Gomez.
Can Mexico cope with his physicality?

17:35
78 mins: Germany are starting to turn the screw here as Mexico defend for their lives.
First Draxler and then Muller are denied by good blocks before Marquez shows lovely feet and vision to release Layun on another counter attack.
Under pressure from Hummels, he drives at goal but his shot from the edge of box is over.

17:32
SUBSTITUTION: Marquez makes history! (74 mins)
Rafa Marquez is brought on in place of Guardado.
He takes the armband and in so doing becomes the second Mexican to play at five World Cups and only the third player of any nation to do it. He's also the first to ever captain a team at five tournaments.
He is given a huge reception as he comes on for his 17th World Cup appearance.

17:29
72 mins: Drama here at the Luzhniki!
After launching another counter, Chicharito is fed through on goal.
As he bore down on goal, Hummels came back to try and tackle him. Hernandez is felled on the edge of the box with only Neuer to beat but the referee waves away claims of a penalty.
Then Reus fires a volley over the bar after his initial cross was blocked by the face of Gallardo, who requires treatment from the medical team but seems OK to continue.

17:25
68 mins: Mexico make another change, with goalscorer Hirving Lozano given a huge (and hugely deserved ovation) when he is replaced by Raul Jimenez.
Germany then fail to profit from a couple of defensive lapses by Mexico. First Draxler's shot is deflected wide after Salcedo missed his clearance before Werner nearly flicks home after a corner is not dealt with.

17:22
65 mins: As impressive as Mexico have been, it's hard to deny Germany have been really poor in the first 65 minutes.
Usually metronomic midfielders like Kroos have made untold errors, while clear-cut chances have been rare.
Their latest attempt comes courtesy of a bicycle kick from Kimmich which loops over Ochoa's bar.
