Nigerian journalist, Chika Oduah has narrated the first and second experiences she had with xenophobia when she visited South Africa.

Her first experience involved an airport official who treated her shabbily when she just arrived Cape Town from Nigeria for the CNN African Journalist Award. She said the experience left her shaken and no one interfered as it played out. She was treated like a criminal because she was a single female from Nigeria traveling alone, she said.

Her second experience was with a taxi driver who heard her American accent and thought she was from the West. He then told her he would have robbed her if she were Nigerian.
