FG Commends Netflix, Mo Abudu Partnership

The Federal Government has stated that the collaboration between Nigerian filmmaker, Mo Abudu, and American streaming giant, Netflix, is a big boost for the creative industry in the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement saying the partnership for on-screen adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s “Death and The King’s Horseman” and Lola Shoneyin’s “The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives” came at the exact time the industry needed to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic.

Mohammed said: “Coming after Netflix’s first Nigeria original film, Lionheart, this is a great recognition of the immense creative talents that abound in Nigeria and the provision of a global platform for Nigeria storytelling.”

The minister also expressed optimism that the deal would usher in bigger, mutually beneficial working relationships between the streaming service and Nigeria’s creative minds.
