More Trouble For The Oyakhilomes As U.K. Commission Probes Christ Embassy Over Payments

The imminent breakup of their marriage may be the least of the problems popular mega-church pastor, Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Anita, are facing  at the moment as the United Kingdom agency is investigating the UK branch of their church, Christ Embassy, over controversial payments. 

The United Kingdom Charity Commission has launched a probe into the transfer of at least N941 million (£3.6 million) by the church to overseas entities between 2008 and 2012. In a statement on Wednesday, the Charity Commission said it has opened a statutory inquiry to investigate Christ Embassy over “a number of serious concerns relating to the use of charitable funds, in particular large connected party payments and the potential misapplication of grant funding.” According to the Charity Commission, which is the regulator of charities in England and Wales, statutory inquiries are only opened to investigate “the most serious” regulatory breaches. 

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Denies Adultery Accusations, Threatens To Sue Journalists

 

Though not denying the growing divorce scandal surrounding him, the head pastor of Christ Embassy Church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has threatened legal recourse against journalists publishing stories about him and his wife, Anita's divorce.

The pastor, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), called the accusations of adultery a "false and malicious" attack against him and the church.
“The attention of our client, Rev. Chris Oyakhilome, and the church has been drawn to the wave of false, malicious and fabricated stories being published in the print and electronic media about his person, the church and a matrimonial cause between him and his wife," his attorney stated.
Sharply criticizing the recent coverage of the divorce proceedings, which the statement did not refute, the release claimed that publishers went so far as to fabricate claims that he had committed adultery against his wife, Anita. These contradict her claims that the leader of Christ Embassy Church had indeed been unfaithful during their "terribly degenerated" marriage, something she disclosed through counsel to Premium Times earlier Wednesday.

The entire ‘social media world’ has been agog with the messy divorce news of famous Nigerian Pastor, Chris Oyakhilome and his estranged wife, Pastor Anita. 

However the untold story behind the divorce is what you may not have heard before. According to a member of Oyakhilome’s Christ Embassy Church at Ikotun Egbe Parish who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity, it was the cleric’s alleged unholy romance with Sinach, a female Gospel singer with the Church that crashed his marriage. “Pastor Chris’ wife had been unhappy with his rumoured affair with Sinach alongside other issues, while she was away running the affair of the Church abroad.

Since last week when the news of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his wife’s divorce broke in the media, it has not been easy for all the parties. The media was yesterday awash with report that Mrs. Oyakhilome had filed a suit at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK on the grounds of "unreasonable behavior" and "adultery."

Members of the Christ Embassy are divided over a divorce suit filed against the Senior Pastor of the church, Chris Oyakhilome, by wife, Anita, in a London court.

Oyakhilome is the President of the Believers’ Love World Incorporated, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife is the Vice President.

Some members of the church on a Facebook page, ‘Where is Rev. Anita Oyakhilome,’ which is believed to have been opened by Anita’s fans, expressed differing opinions on the matter.

On Saturday, one of the church members, Ijeoma Olive Ehirim said, “I am a Christ Embassy member. I hate one thing there: How can a pastor be working together with a lady hand in hand, attending meetings and lodging in a hotel for days. My girlfriend travels with our branch pastor annually for PPCF which holds in Lagos. Only God knows.”

The shocking news yesterday, was the  suit filed in London by Rev. Anita Oyakhilome, seeking divorce from her husband, Chris Oyakhilome, over alleged adultery and ‘unreasonable behaviour’.

The story of the divorce had been an open secret since early this year, when people began to see less and less of Anita and Chris together, especially at functions where they were supposed to appear as  a couple. The first indication of disharmony was the decision of Pastor Chris to relocate to South Africa while the wife, managed the Christ Embassy churches in London. She is also in-charge of her own chapter, Christ Embassy Docklands on North Woolwich, London and she is the co-Director of LoveWorld Christian Network. This was in January. But by May, the story returned to the front pages.
