Zuriel Oduwole, a ten-year-old Nigerian girl Zuriel Oduwole has made history as the youngest person ever to be interviewed in Forbes, the global iconic magazine title.

The interview with the award-winning documentary film maker, conference speaker and writer is featured in the August 2013 edition of Forbes Africa.

Touted as the next Larry King and Oprah Winfrey, Oduwole is reportedly committed to showcasing the positive things about Africa, and making a case for Girl Child education on the continent.

As an award winning documentary film maker and writer Zuriel has, in her quest of pursuing her goal, interviewed leading African personalities, including eight current African Presidents, Africa’s richest person, Aliko Dangote and Tennis super stars – Venus and Serena Williams.

Zuriel believes if she can walk a mile, then there are girls who on seeing her work and progress made, would walk a mile and a half.

That, she believes is one simple way to inspire the African Girl Child, and show the world the need to educate the  continents often forgotten Girl Child, of which Zuriel is one.

Governor Fashola`s Father Dies At 79

PA Ademola Fashola, the biological father of the Lagos State governor,Babatunde Raji Fashola has died at the age of 79. According to family sources, the governor's father passed on early Monday.

Mr Hakeem Bello,Special Adviser to Fashola on media, who  was on lesser hajj pilgrimage with the governor in Saudi Arabia,  confirmed the death to  newsmen in Ikeja via telephone.

He said the state government would  soon issue  a statement giving details of his burial arrangement

Wife of the Proprietor of Upper Class Hotel where two human heads and other items were discovered by the police in Onitsha has raised the alarm over the safety of her husband.

Mrs. Nkiru Mokwe, a lawyer, said the life of her husband was in danger and appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President David Mark to intervene in the matter while they pursue justice. “My husband was arrested and detained at Central Police Station, CPS, Onitsha. When the Commissioner of Police was petitioned, he was moved to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Awkuzu. My husband is being detained in a very de-humanizing condition at SARS Awkuzu, and the police have denied him access to his lawyer and relations,” she said.

“My husband’s hotel at No 8 Old Market Road Onitsha which he inherited from his father, Chief G.C Mokwe, has been demolished.”

This is the popular hotel in Onitsha that was demolished by the Anambra State government last week after two human skulls were allegedly discovered inside. The hotel, called Upper Class Hotel, is located at 8 Old Market Road, Onitsha and is owned by business man, Mr Bonaventure Mokwe.

The human skulls, a male and a female head, were discovered after the Nigerian police raided the hotel following a tip off. Mr Mokwe has been arrested along with 10 other people.

His wife, Mrs Nkiru Mokwe, a lawyer, has appealed to president Jonathan to save her husband's life claiming he was set up. She said the whole thing was a set up and the human heads planted in the hotel by people who wanted to destroy her husband.

SATURDAY, June 22,2013, will for a long time remain indelible in the memory of Godwin Olah, 37, following an incident that claimed the life of his 28- year-old wife, Stella, during a row with a neighbour identified as Stella Omoigiafo Gilbert (31). The suspect, a mother of one, allegedly pierced the heart of the deceased, a mother of three aged between six and three, with a knife after a scuffle in their compound.

The grieving husband of the deceased who hails from Obudu local Government Area of Cross River State, Godwin, told Crime Alert at their number 59, Ojora Street, Ajegunle, Lagos residence that the suspect also inflicted severe injuries on his wife's hand before piercing her heart resulting to her death. Amidst tears, he narrated his ordeal since the untimely death of his wife.

His story: "It happened that on June 22, 2013, at about 6pm, one of my sisters came calling on us. I decided to carry one small bench at the front of a neighbour's house for the visitor to sit inside our room. Immediately, Stella, our neighbour, rushed out of her room and accosted me, asking why I should carry the bench inside. The owner of the bench, on hearing our argument, came out and asked her to let us be, but she refused, instead she went inside, brought out hot water and poured on us. I reasoned that if I engage in a fight with her, it might result to some serious consequences, so, I went to the police station at Ajaromi and reported the case.

A woman has given birth to her first baby just 15 hours after discovering she was pregnant.

Amanda Ross, 41, was out shopping with her partner Paul Dean when she suddenly developed stomach cramps.

She had been feeling bloated and blamed it on constipation and went to her local health centre to see a GP.

They referred her to a midwife who gave her a scan - and told her she was probably seven or eight months pregnant.

Amanda was sent home with some medication for her stomach but at 1.30am told Paul she had to get straight to hospital as her tummy was rumbling.

Paul, who has two children and two grandchildren from his first marriage, drove Amanda to the nearest hospital.

Three-day FBI Raid Rescues 105 Children From Prostitution As 150 Arrested

FBI agents have rescued more than 100 children forced into prostitution by sex traffickers, during a three-day sweep across the US.

As part of Operation Cross Country, 150 people were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the sexual exploitation of children.

The raids took place in 76 cities, representing the largest such enforcement action to date, according to an FBI release.

Announcing the arrests, Ron Hosko, assistant director of the bureau's Criminal Investigative Division, said: "Child prostitution remains a persistent threat to children across America.

"This operation serves as a reminder that these abhorrent crimes can happen anywhere and that the FBI remains committed to stopping this cycle of victimization and holding the criminals who profit from this exploitation accountable."

Two Persons Arrested In Lagos Over Visa Lottery Scam Marriage [Photos]

Police in Lagos disclosed that two persons, Adetokunbo Adejayan and Juliet Adebisi, have been arrested by the police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, for pretending to be married in order to secure a United States visa.

The crime was said to have been brought to the notice of the SFU through a petition by the Assistant Regional Security Officer, United States Consulate General.

Police investigation revealed that Adejayan and Adebisi were not husband and wife as claimed.

It was discovered that the false union was arranged by one Segun and his syndicate, which specialise in teaming up US visa lottery winners with non-winners   for onward “smuggling” to the US.

A statement by the SFU Public Relations Officer,  Ngozi Isintume-Agu, said, “Their method is to merge a visa lottery winner with a non-winner and package both to US.

“In this case, the sum of N1.5m was paid by Adebisi and she was purportedly joined in matrimony with Adejayan, who genuinely won an American Visa lottery.  Both suspects have made confessional statements that they are not legally married.”

Adeyanju, 35, who teaches in a secondary school   in  Mafoluku, Oshodi, was said to have won the lottery in May 2012.

UK £3,000 Visa Bond To Begin in November For Nigeria, Kenya, India, Pakistan And Bangladesh

Despite British Prime Minister David Cameron’s assurance that he will not sanction the controversial 3000 pounds visa bond, his government last weekend insisted it would begin the trial this November. The visa is to restrict some visitors from India, Nigeria, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

They will have to pay the cash bond in return for visitor visas that allow them to stay in the UK for up to six months.

At the height of the controversy, David Cameron’s administration assured that he would not sanction the policy. But last weekend, FT said: “Britain is pressing ahead with its trial of a scheme to make visitors from six countries pay a £3,000 bond, despite an international backlash and complaints from businesses. The government said it would begin a pilot in November to impose visa restrictions on six Commonwealth nations, including India and Nigeria, even though David Cameron poured cold water on the scheme in June after it provoked uproar in Delhi.”

Having carved a place for herself as an A-list model working with international fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood and gracing the cover of popular fashion magazines including Marie Clare, Nigerian born UK-based model/actress, Ngozi Ziggi in 2009 took a shot at acting and landed serious roles in The Temptations, a movie, and a serial in the UK which airs on Ben TV.

Buoyed by the success, the happily married mother of two girls is in the country to take what she describes as her 'rightful position' in the world's third largest movie making industry, Nollywood.

Tony Ogaga Erhariefe recently caught up with the Law graduate and she opened up on her growing up, modeling and marriage among others. Excerpts:

The Coalition was at war over immigration last night after Vince Cable accused the Tories of trying to stoke up a ‘sense of fear’.

The Liberal Democrat Business Secretary said Conservative ministers were ‘obsessing’ about immigration numbers.

He dismissed reports that there are now more than a million illegal immigrants in this country, saying: ‘The idea there’s some vast hidden army of people is almost certainly wrong.’ 

And he attacked a controversial Home Office poster campaign urging illegal immigrants to ‘go home or face arrest’, questioning whether the targets of the posters would even understand them.

Mr Cable said the Lib Dems had not been consulted about the van campaign – and suggested it was a cynical attempt by the Conservatives to stoke up public fears about immigration.

He said: ‘It was stupid and it’s offensive. It is designed, apparently, to sort of create a sense of fear in the British population that we have a vast problem with illegal immigration. We have a problem, but it’s got to be dealt with in a measured way by dealing with the underlying causes.’

He questioned whether illegal immigrants would have enough of a ‘sophisticated grasp of English’ to be able to read the posters on the vans at a distance.

His comments grew an angry response from senior Tories last night.

An award-winning Nigerian music director, Aswad Ayinde, found guilty of fathering children with his daughters will spend the rest of his life in jail.

According to Mail Online, Ayinde, 55, of Paterson, New Jersey, United States, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Friday after being found guilty in the second of five expected trials in which he is accused of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in six children being fathered.

Mr. Ayinde was found guilty in his latest trial of having intercourse with a daughters when she was as young as eight-years-old. The second sentence adds to the 40 year sentence Mr Ayinde received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.
