Sand Truck Tumbles Over Bridge Onto Express Lane Belwo In Lagos

A truck conveying sand earlier today tumbled from a bridge in Maryland Lagos onto the express lane below.

The truck, which has now been removed by traffic and emergency officials by pre-dawn reportedly veered off its lane around 2am and crashed through section of the culvert and fell onto the express lane.

Pupils Wear Religious Regalia To School In Osun …Sing Different Religious Songs In Assembly

Pupils of Baptist High School, Iwo on the assembly ground... on Tuesday.

There was confusion at Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State on Tuesday as some pupils shunned their uniforms and wore choir gowns, white garments, Islamic apparel and other unconventional dresses to the school.

Although no group or individual could be identified as the mastermind of the bizarre dress code by the pupils, there were, however, conflicting reasons for the behaviour.

While some people said the unconventional dresses were a way of registering dislike for the same uniform introduced by the government for all schools in the state, others said some Christians who were opposed to wearing of hijab in schools founded by Christian missionaries orchestrated the drama.

The suit instituted on the issue of hijab wearing to school is still pending before an Osun State High Court.

But Tuesday confusion reportedly became more pronounced at the assembly ground as the pupils could not listen to their teachers because they were busy lining up themselves along religious lines.

Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday arrested a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Aderoju Ojikutu, and she will appear in court tomorrow in connection with fraudulently obtaining N130million from one Cajethan Okekearu.

Mrs. Ojikutu was declared wanted on June 19, 2013, but she went to court to halt police investigations, a suit that was thrown out by a judge a few weeks ago.

The SFU police spokesperson Ngozi Isintume-Agu said in a statement that Alhaja Ojikutu, 67, who was picked up at her Lagos Island residence, allegedly connived with one Samson Adebisi Ojikutu Jnr, her son, to commit the offence. Samson is currently in the United States.

According to the statement, the former deputy governor and her son “were parties to the sale of the land and both signed the agreement given to the Complainant and obtained the sum of N130 million from him.”

A builder has given his pet dog away after she chewed a hole through the wheel arch of his prized £80,000 Aston Martin. Royston Grimstead, 42, was distraught when he came home to find his border collie spaniel cross Luce had chewed through the fibreglass panel of his luxury car. A man and his daughter on Tuesday morning drowned in Lagos as a Toyota jeep in which they were travelling fell off the Ikota Bridge in Ajah and plunged into a lagoon.

Mr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the accident.

He said that the man’s wife was thrown out by the vehicle as it somersaulted before plunging into the lagoon.

The LASEMA official said the accident occurred at about 1.00 a.m., and that the bodies have been deposited at a mortuary while the woman was taken to a hospital.

A 48-year-old Canadian woman has died from strangulation after her scarf and hair got caught in an escalator at a Montreal train station.

The freak accident took place just after 9am Thursday morning at the Fabre metro station along Montreal's blue line.

Witnesses told police they saw the unnamed victim struggling to free her scarf after it got lodged in the teeth of an escalator on her way down to the subway platform.

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Ondo State Command, said on Thursday it had discovered a ‘baby factory’ in Ilu-tuntun, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
The command told newsmen in Akure that 19 men and women who were allegedly cohabiting and producing children for the owner of the ‘factory’ were arrested.
They comprised eight men and 11 women and the owner of the factory.
Five of the women were carrying children, while another five were found pregnant.
The Comptroller of the command, Alhaji Al-Hassan Musa, said “we were able to arrest these people by acting on a tip-off we got from Abuja.”
“A circular emanating from the headquarters informed us that an operator of a baby factory in Imo State has relocated to somewhere in Ondo State.

It was learnt that a commercial motorcycle rider, identified simply as Baba Monday, was also shot to death in the operation which was said to have lasted for about 20 minutes.
At the scene on Tuesday, it was observed that the thugs riddled several houses with bullets and also vandalised some vehicles.
The slain woman’s father, Tajudeen Odusanwo, said that his daughter was shot in the stomach and in the face, while his granddaughter was shot in the head.
He said, “Between 9.30 and 10pm, my daughter and granddaughter were getting ready to close the shop when some armed thugs from the railway line stormed the street and started shooting sporadically.

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida today released a statement through his media aide, Kassim Afegbua more or less advising the President to see things a bit differently especially beyond what his aides tell him.

The statement reads: “The happenings in the country in recent times call for worry if we must be sincere with ourselves. Every day, the nation is treated with one form of political issue or the other. From security challenges to economic challenges, Nigerians are asking several questions that deserve responses from government at the various levels. Democracy is when it is a people-driven government with its fundamental principles of freedom of expression, freedom of association, rule of law, accountability, probity and equal representation amongst others.

Detectives of the Oyo State Police Command are battling to unravel the mystery behind the death of two brothers one after the other and an attack on their uncle accused of killing them with a deadly anti-adultery charm, magun, laced in the bossom of his wife and that of his brother’s.

The uncle is lying critically ill in a hospital in Ibadan after irate youths attacked him following the death of the second man.
