Tommy Macias, 51, from California, died from coronavirus on June 21 - just a day after uploading a tragic and regret-filled Facebook message saying he 'f***ed up' and caught the virus at a party. Lamenting the fact that he put his family's health at risk, he pleaded with people to wear masks in public and keep their distance from others, adding: 'Don't be an idiot like me.' Friends said Macias, who was overweight and had diabetes, had been following guidelines strictly until he attended the party as California's lockdown restrictions were eased. The state is currently in the midst of a spike in cases and hospital admissions which has seen Governor Gavin Newsom close down the majority of bars and restaurants again for at least the next three weeks.

Gustavo Lopez, his brother-in-law, told NBC that from March until early June, Macias was following guidelines and only going out when necessary.
However, in early June Macias travelled 70 miles to Lake Elsinore to attend a party with a large group of others.
Included in the crowd was a friend, who Lopez did not name, who had tested positive for coronavirus and knew about the diagnosis.
