A mother has beaten odds of a million-to-one by giving birth to a baby who appears to be of a different race.

Catherine Howarth, 32, from Milton Keynes, is Nigerian by heritage, and so was, at first, a little taken aback when she saw her son Jonah for the first time.

With his pale skin, green eyes and light brown hair, Jonah, now three months old, looks like any other new-born baby - but, when seen in his mother's arms, his uniqueness is obvious.

Recalling the moment she delivered Jonah in Milton Keynes Hospital on June 1, his mother told the Sunday Mirror: ‘The midwife looked at me and looked back down at Jonah and then at me again and couldn’t believe it.'

Tinubu Tears Apart Ikimi; Says He’s A Devious Man With An Awful Past

Chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has launched a blistering response to allegations made against him by a former Minister of External Affairs, Tom Ikimi.

 Mr. Ikimi, who last week left the APC and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], had blamed Mr. Tinubu for his ordeals while in the opposition party.

He said the former governor hijacked the party and was now using his vantage position in the fold to frustrate anyone who could stand up to him.

I  recently wrote an article for TheWeek.com about bogus grammar "rules" that aren't worth your time. However, there are still plenty of legitimate rules that you should be aware of. Not following them doesn't make you a bad person or even (necessarily) a bad writer. I'm sure that all of them were broken at one point or another by Henry James, Henry Adams, or some other major author named Henry. Moreover, grammar is one of the least pressing problems when it comes to the poor state of writing today. In my new book, How to Not Write Bad: The Most Common Writing Problems and the Best Ways to Avoid Them, things like wordiness, poor word choice, awkwardness, and bad spelling — which have nothing to do with grammar — take up the bulk of my attention.

Nevertheless, anyone who wants to write in a public setting has to be aware of grammar. (And I'm concerned with writing here; talking is a whole different ballgame.) If you make these errors, you're likely to be judged harshly by an editor you want to publish your work; an executive who, you hope, will be impressed enough by your cover letter to hire you; or a reader you want to be persuaded by your argument. In each case, there's a pretty easy workaround, so better safe than sorry.

How Suspected Assassins Kill UNILAG Security Chief At Beer Parlour (Pub)

Suspected assassins have killed the Head of Operations, Security Unit, University of Lagos, Mr. Sunday Adejumo.

The 50-year-old was shot dead at a beer parlour on Oyenuga Street in the Akoka area of Lagos on Friday evening.

Our correspondent learnt that Adejumo on the fateful night was in the joint with three of his friends when some strange faces stormed the pub.

They were said to have headed straight for their target where he sat and hit him in the chest, before firing shots at him.

The gunshots were said to have caused confusion in the area.
