Abuja Light Rail System is a new light rail network being developed in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. It is the first light rail system being developed in Western Africa.
The first phase of the light rail system was commissioned by the President of Nigeria in July 2018. It is operated by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The Abuja Light Rail System is mainly intended to reduce the traffic congestion and offer an enhanced travel experience to the commuters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) region of Abuja.

According to Aminu, his late father had been battling with an undisclosed ailment for a decade “until this morning when death snatched him away.”
The late monarch left behind four wives, many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The governor said: “We have lost a rare gem, a source of wisdom and guidance and a true father of all. May Allah Grant his soul abode in Aljanna Firdaus. Amin.

The September 19 gubernatorial election in Edo State has come and gone, won and lost, according to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The win is as exciting to the winners as the loss is heart-wrenching to the losers.
The winner of the Edo gubernatorial tussle, Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 307,955 votes to defeat his main challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 223,619 votes.
Mr Obaseki had defected to the PDP from the APC when he was disqualified from participating in the APC governorship primary election over alleged irregularities in his academic qualifications. Many saw his disqualification as high-handed, wondering why the party that gave him the platform to contest in 2016 would deny him the same platform barely four years later.
Police officers in Anambra state have arrested a 47-year-old man identified as Emeka Ezimadu, for allegedly killing two of his own children, his 85-year-old mother, and inflicting injuries on three other children at Okpuneze Uruagu in Nnewi North local government area of State on Thursday, September 17.
The state police command spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the suspect allegedly went berserk, attacked, and killed two of his biological children, 9-year-old Ifechukwu Ezimadu, 2-year-old Ezimadu, and his 85-year-old mother, Agnes Ezimadu, with a cutlass while they were sleeping

As Nigeria plans for the resumption of international flights on Saturday, September 5, September 5, the Federal Government has barred some airlines from operating in Nigeria.
Speaking at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Thursday, September 3, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the international airlines denied flying approval include Air France, KLM, Etihad, Rwandair, Lufthansa, TAAG Angola Airlines and others.

41-year-old Ogbonna Nwankwo pictured below has been arrested by men of the Anambra state police command for allegedly attempting to kill a woman, Bella Joseph, and cutting off her breast on Wednesday, September 2.
Disclosing this to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, said Ogbonna took Bella to Dollar Inn motel in Ihite in Orumba South local government area to lodge. He said while they lodged in their hotel room, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab Bella and was attempting to cut off her breast when her cry for help was heard by the motel manager who came to her rescue.

More Nigerian medical practitioners may leave the country as the United Kingdom yesterday announced new ‘Health and Care Visa’ policy to attract the best talents in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
The country, which has since the outbreak of COVID-19 stopped the issuance of visa, opened the migration window for care professionals, social workers and their families, to bolster its National Health Service (NHS).
The new visa policy aims to make it cheaper, quicker and easier for healthcare professionals to come to go to the UK, beginning in August.

A large number of doctors are set to exit Nigeria once the ban on international flights is lifted this week, The PUNCH has learnt.
This is just as The PUNCH observed from data provided by the United Kingdom’s Medical Council that the number of Nigerian doctors migrating to the UK increased by almost 100 between July and August despite the restriction on international flights.
Recall that the Nigeria Immigration Service had in July prevented 58 Nigerian doctors from migrating to the UK because they didn’t have visas.
It was, however, learnt that following the re-opening of the British High Commission a month ago, many of these doctors had obtained visas and had left even though the restriction on international flights had not been lifted.
International flights will resume in the country on Saturday.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has warned against the use of Malaysian banned cosmetics identified as Sifu Kunyit Day Cream, Sifu Kunyit Night Cream and JJ Skincare Glowhite Night Cream.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of the agency, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, these banned products were found to contain hydroquinone, tretinoin, betamethasone valerate and mercury which could cause change to skin pigmentation, damage to the kidney and increase the risk of skin cancer and they have been banned by the Malaysian Ministry of Health.
According to prof Adeyeye, Sifu Kunyit Night cream contains mercury and betamethasone 17-valerate, Sifu Kunyit Day Cream contains hydroquinone, tretinoin and betamethasone 17-valerate, while JJ Skincare Glowhite Night cream contains hydroquinone.

As international flights in Nigeria resume on Saturday, August 29, the Federal Government has warned that any airline that fails to comply with all the COVID-19 protocols would pay a fine of $3,500 per passenger.

Police officers in Anambra state have arrested a woman who killed her newborn son by throwing him into a pit toilet.
Franca Udokwu, 30, from Obuba Obofia Nkpor Community in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, was arrested on August 22 by police operatives attached to Ogidi Division following a tip-off.
Upon interrogation, the suspect led police detectives to the pit toilet inside her house where she dumped her baby.
The baby was recovered and taken to Iyi- Enu Mission Hospital for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

Oyo State Police Command has arrested a trader identified as Emmanuel Egbu, for allegedly eating human excreta with bread.
Sunday PUNCH gathered that Egbu, who has a shop at the Sango area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was caught by some persons around 12 noon on Saturday.

Nigerians on social media are reacting to the leaked video of late Senator Kashamu Buruji seeking forgiveness from billionaire businessman, Chief Kessington Adebutu, shortly before his death. Kashamu who died on August 8 of COVID-19, had called Adebutu from his sickbed to seek forgiveness over the differences they had from a business deal that went wrong.
Kashamu who spoke in Yoruba, pleaded with the businessman to forgive him for any wrongdoing. Adebutu on his part accepted his forgiveness and also asked Kashamu to withdraw all the lawsuits he filed against him to show he is serious in his bid to seek forgiveness.
Nigerians have been reacting to the video. While some found it distasteful that a video like this can find its way to the public since it was supposed to be a private conversation, others are of the opinion that the video making its way to the public, proves that the deceased senator was a good man for seeking for forgiveness from someone who he felt he had offended before his death. A 42-year old tenant, Damilare Adeoya, has killed his landlord after catching him having sex with his wife in his matrimonial bed in Osun state,
It was gathered that the angry man used a cutlass to kill his landlord on a fateful day.
According to PM Express, the incident happened in Osun State where Adeoya resides with his wife.

The alleged murder was reported to the Police and he was arrested by the Osun State Police Command and is now facing murder charge which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
He was said to have also attacked his wife, who sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital in order to save her life.
This was confirmed by the Osun State Public Relations Officer, Idrissu Adeboyejo, who said that the suspect was in Police custody undergoing interrogations over the act.
He said the matter has been transferred to the State CID and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Nigeria will enforce the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines to resume operations into the country as it opens its airspace, the Federal Government said on Thursday.
According to the government, what this means is that only airlines from countries that allow flights from Nigeria will be allowed to fly into and out of Nigeria.
On July 2, 2020, it was reported that the Council of the European Union had opened its borders to 15 countries, excluding Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, has deployed additional investigative aides to Oyo State with the aim of re-arresting Sunday Shodipe, a prime suspect in the multiple murder of innocent citizens at Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya, Ibadan.

Police have arrested 11 people and recovered more than 50 stolen vehicles that were allegedly bound for Africa following a months-long investigation into an auto theft ring that was targeting higher-end Honda SUVs.
York Regional Police say that they began an investigation in January after noticing an “emerging trend” in which higher-end Honda CRV’s were being stolen from residential neighbourhoods cross the GTA.
Det. Jeff McKercher of the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit says that investigators soon learned that the culprits were “canvassing higher-end neighbourhoods” in search of specific vehicles.

Mutinous soldiers detained Mali’s president and prime minister Tuesday after surrounding a residence and firing into the air in an apparent coup attempt after several months of demonstrations calling for President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita’s ouster.
The soldiers moved freely through the streets of Bamako, making it increasingly clear that they were in control of the capital city. There was no immediate comment from the soldiers, who hail from the very same military barracks in Kati where an earlier coup originated more than eight years ago.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed how the late former American Ambassador in Nigeria, Amb. Walter Carrington, leaked the information of his pending arrest by late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha (retd.), in 1995 to him.
Obasanjo said he was offered political asylum in the United States of America during his trip to Copenhagen to attend the World Social Summit as Human Development Ambassador of the United Nations Development Programme.
But the former President stated that he turned down the asylum offer despite its tempting and assuring nature.
