Ejigbo Pepper Theft: Police Arrest 8 For Torturing Women

AJIGBO
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested eight men in connection with the torturing of two women in the Ejigbo area of the state.
The suspectswere said to have been arrested on Saturday afternoon after authorities at the Ejigbo Market were given an ultimatum by the monarch, Oba Moruf Ojoola of Ejigbo.
The video of the two women, stripped naked and tortured for allegedly stealing pepper, went viral on the Internet, drawing nationwide condemnation.
One of the women, it was later revealed, died due to the injuries she sustained.
The Lagos State House of Assembly subsequently set up a committee to investigate the matter.
It was learnt that although the images of the assailants did not appear in the amateur video footage, traders were said to have identified and exposed them after the market was shut indefinitely by the monarch on the condition that they produce the suspects.

The efforts were said to have paid off after the market leaders took the culprits to the palace of the king.
An OPC member, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the identity and pictures of the culprits had been given to the police since last week.
A police source also told our correspondent that the police were screening the suspects to determine their level of culpability.
