‘Mysterious Snake’ That Swallowed N36m Will Not Go Unpunished - JAMB Declares

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has said that it won’t spare the “mysterious snake” which allegedly took N36 million from its vault in Benue state.

This was revealed by Fabian Benjamin, Spokesman of the examination body, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

THEWILL recalls that one Philomina Chieshe, a sales clerk, had shocked the public with a confession wherein she claimed a mysterious snake swallowed N36 million from the board’s office vault in Benue state as she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.

During interrogation, Chieshe reportedly confessed that her housemaid connived with Joan Asen, a JAMB official, to “spiritually” (through a snake) steal the money from the vault in the account office but Benjamin said the board is determined to unravel those behind fraudulent activities.

At least 1,400 buildings marked for demolition in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to pave the way for the construction of the $1.5 billion standard gauge Lagos-Ibadan rail line may be spared, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said.

The minister, who spoke to journalists on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a meeting with officials of the contractor handling the project, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), said the Federal Government would thus be saving about N2.8 billion required to compensate owners of the affected buildings.

He stated that the contractor had been advised to see the possibility of avoiding the 1,400 structures marked for demolition among several buildings on the new line’s right of way.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at the weekend raised the alarm as suspected daredevil smugglers severely cut the left arm of one of its officers in Ibeji River, around Idogo-Ifoyintedo axis in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The officer, Musa Muhammed Maigari, and his colleagues in a joint patrol team of Command Crack Squad and Federal Operations Unit (FOU A) were on the trail of the smugglers and eventually intercepted a Toyota Highlander smuggled into the country through the river, while some of them ambushed and macheted Maigari on his left hand.

LASU final year student and Unilag PhD student killed by train while on phone lailasnews

Tragedy, struck along Ikeja railway line on Monday morning, reportedly left a postdoctoral student at the University of Lagos identified as Fatai Mutiu Abolade and a yet to be identified final year student of LASU dead, as they were reportedly crushed to death by a train around Ajayi Farm, Ikeja.

The identity card found on the LASU student showed that he was studying Economics in UNILAG and his matriculation number was 119081228.

According to eyewitnesses, Abolade and the LASU final year student were crushed to death by the train which was on full speed, while on their phone. It was gathered that the train driver kept honking, but the late accident victims were distracted by their phones.

NATIONAL Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, were at the presidential villa, Abuja on Tuesday for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari ostensibly over the crisis in the ruling party.

Both men arrived at about 3.03pm and were expected to meet with the president at his official residence.

When approached by correspondents before the meeting, he had declined to speak, but only saying, “when I come back.”

The General Overseer of the God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, Lagos state, Daniel Onwugbufor, and an accomplice, Israel Animashaun, have been arrested by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ogun state chapter, for alleged car snatching.
The pair were arrested on the 1st of February after the police traced a stolen car to the pastor, Premium Times reports.

While speaking with journalists on Sunday, the Ogun state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that during interrogation, Animashaun confessed that he and two others snatched the vehicle at gun point in Ajah, Lagos state, and took it to the pastor who helps them sell such stolen items.
Oyeyemi said the pastor earlier denied knowing that Animashaun was an armed robber later confessed and blamed his action on the devil.

Three teenage students heading to Ndejje SS to get their recently released Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results have perished in a car crash. A fourth is in intensive care at Mulago.

The four students, one of who was reportedly driving the Toyota Brevis, met their fate on Bombo-Ndejje Road in Luwero after they crashed into a lorry loading bricks on the side of the road shortly before midday on Friday.

The federal government has filed a two-count charge against Senator Dino Melaye for allegedly giving false information to the police in relation to claim on April 17 of an attempt on his life.

The charge marked: CR/106/18 was filed on January 31 this year before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

Melaye is, in the charge, accused of falsely incriminating the Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Edward Onoja David, in his assassination attempt claim.

Britain To Add Nigeria's Naira To List Of Accepted Trade Currencies

Britain's export finance agency will add the naira to its list of "pre-approved currencies", allowing it to provide financing for transactions with Nigerian businesses denominated in the local currency.

The naira will become one of three West African currencies that UK Export Finance has pre-approved for its programme of funding transactions that promote trade with Britain, it said.

Britain voted in 2016 to leave the European Union, which has forced London to rethink its trade ties with the rest of the world. The United Kingdom and the EU struck an agreement in December that opened the way for talks on future trade ties.

"This is a clear indication of how much value the UK places on its relationship with Nigeria," Paul Arkwright, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, said in the UK's credit agency statement. "It will provide a firm foundation for a significant increase in trade and investment between both countries."

The man identified as Emmanuel Azubuike Madu, 59 and his daughter, Chikaosoro Blessing Madu, 24 – who died after they were electrocuted in Port Harcourt were laid to rest on Friday 9th February, 2018 in Isiochi, Abia state.

According to the report hared by one Chidera Chukwudi on social media, the sad incident took place on the 27th of January, 2018 and it was reported that the duo was burnt beyond recognition.

Facebook friends of the lady were in disbelief at the time the report emerged on social media. A lot of her friends claimed it could not be true as Blessing was a jovial lady that was loved by all. A security scare occurred at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos on Thursday night as burglars attacked Air Peace aircraft at the airport while it was taxiing to take off to Abuja.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737 was attacked at 7:35 pm by unknown bandits on the domestic runway of the airport.

A source close to the scene told our correspondent that suspected burglars opened cargo hold of Air Peace Flight 7138 taxiing for departure on Runway 18R (A1) of the Lagos Airport.

The Communications Manager, Air Peace, Mr. Chris Iwarah confirmed the incident and a passenger aboard the aircraft also tweeted about the incident.

Popular Dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns and three people were on board a Jeep when it collided head-on with a VIP bus going the opposite way.

Photos circulating on social media after the incident revealed a man in military uniform was part of the accident victims.

The man has been confirmed to be a soldier in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), who served as Ebony's bodyguard.

Killer wife Victoria Gagariga sentenced to death by hanging

Justice Nayai Aganaba, Bayels State High Court, on Tuesday, sentenced to death by hanging of 30-year-old Victoria Gagariga for the killing of her husband, Henry Gagariga, on February 4, 2015 at the residence along Ebisam Road in Akenfa, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The deceased, a lawyer from Sagbama Local Government Area and his wife Victoria from Brass Local Government Area and staff of the Bayelsa Arts and Culture, had been cohabiting for years before they decided to legalise their union in 2014, though it was yet to produce children before the unfortunate incident.

Victoria was said to have stabbed Henry in the neck on a fateful day after a misunderstanding between the couple and was confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital.

Justice Aganaba, before reading his judgement, said the prosecution called six witnesses and produced seven exhibits while the defence only had one witness who happened to be the accused.

Sacked driver kidnaps his former boss, collects N9m ransom Lailasnews 1

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT) have arrested a former driver alongside his gang members who were responsible for the abduction of Mr. Nemi Adoki, the former boss to the driver and was made to pay a ransom of N9million.

The man was later released after 21 days, following a payment of N9million ransom. He was kept in captivity in the Creeks of Akuku-Toru LGA of Rivers State. The Police report that the kidnappers were arrested between 15 January and 2 February from their different hideout across Rivers and Bayelsa states.The arrested suspects are Justice Timothy 22; Akpos Livinus, 33; Daniel Allen, 27; Kelvin Alpheus, 30; David Abak, 29; and Tekena Silva, 26. According to the Police, Timothy, the gang leader, is proficient in the use of AK 47.

Weeks after the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and other state officials boycotted a presidential campaign programme launched in his state, the presidency has sent an emissary to the governor.

The South-West Zonal Office of the Muhammadu Buhari Osinbajo (MBO) Dynamic Support Group, a campaign organisation for the re-election of the president, was launched in January in Ibadan.

The group is led by the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, who seeks to take over from Mr. Ajimobi as Oyo governor. Although both men are members of the APC, they are political opponents in the state, thus leading to the state official’s boycott of the event.
